VFC (Vaccines for children) program is changing
effective January 1, 2012.
After January 1, 2012 due to a cut budget the under-insured children will no longer qualify to receive VFC vaccines in the providers’ office.
Those who are under-insured can still receive VFC vaccines but only at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) or Medicare Certified Rural Health Centers (RHC).
A patient is considered under-insured when they are insured with a commercial insurance but meet one of the following criteria:
- No vaccine coverage
- Insurance only covers certain vaccines
- Have a maximum yearly limit for vaccines and after that is met there is no vaccine coverage
